Privacy Policy
Stats Machine stores all data locally on your device. Nothing is ever sent to any server, third party, or external service.
What we collect
Stats Machine collects the following data locally on your device to provide its core functionality:
- Web history — domains you visit and time spent on each, used to generate your browsing summary and focus score.
- User activity — scroll events, tab switches, and idle/active state, used to measure focus and detect when you're actually at your desk.
We do not collect: your name, email, location, financial data, passwords, personal messages, or any other personally identifiable information.
How data is stored
All data is stored exclusively in chrome.storage.local — a sandboxed storage area on your own device managed by Chrome. This data:
- Never leaves your browser
- Is never transmitted to any server
- Is never shared with any third party
- Is never used for advertising or profiling
What we do NOT do
Permissions explained
Stats Machine requests the following Chrome permissions, each used solely for the extension's core tracking functionality:
- tabs — to identify the active tab so time is attributed to the correct domain.
- webNavigation — to detect page navigations and measure session boundaries.
- idle — to detect when you step away, so idle time is excluded from your active stats.
- storage — to save your stats, streaks, and settings locally on your device.
- alarms — to update the live timer and Pomodoro countdown in the background.
- notifications — to alert you when a Pomodoro session ends or a break reminder triggers.
- scripting — to inject a lightweight script that detects scroll events and page load times.
- browsingData — used only when you explicitly press "Clear all data" to reset your own stats.
Data retention & deletion
Stats Machine keeps up to 90 days of browsing history on your device. You can delete all stored data at any time by clicking Clear all data inside the extension's Settings tab. Uninstalling the extension also removes all locally stored data.
Children's privacy
Stats Machine does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. The extension has no accounts, no sign-up, and no communication features.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will update the date above. Because no data leaves your device, no retroactive changes to data handling are possible.
